The South Texas Select Showcase held their football underclassmen showcase this past weekend in Corpus Christi.

2 RGV athletes were named MVP's of the event.

Most Outstanding OL - Hector de Jesus out of San Benito H.S. (class of 2018)
Most Outstanding RB - Darius Hernandez out of La Feria H.S. (class of 2019)

Harlingen Cardinals win TYFA Spring Championship

The Harlingen Cardinals (SENIORS) team won the TYFA Spring Bowl Championship held at Mcallen Sports Park, winning 3 straight games in dominant fashion.

Cardinals defeated Houston Seahawks 26-12, Texas Giants 35-0 and South Side Colts 40-6 in the championship game.

Sharyland Sting advance to the Conference Championshp

Sharyland Sting, the #2 seed had a 1st round bye with a 9-1 record, awaiting the winner of the #3 Galveston Monarchs vs. #6 Golden Triangle Seminoles out of Beaumont last weekend, with the Monarchs advancing.

Sting hosted the Galveston Monarchs in the 2nd round of the TUFA Playoffs, Saturday night at Sharyland Pioneer H.S.. The game went into halftime scoreless at 0-0, until the Sting finally blew things up leading way to a 16-0 lead late in the 3rd quarter. The Monarchs were able to cut the lead to 16-8 in the 4th, but Sting converted on a 37yd TD pass on 4th down to increase their lead 24-8 late in the 4th. The Monarchs added a late score in the final minute of the game, but was too late as the Sting kneeled the ball to end the game, 24-14 FINAL

Sharyland improves to a 10-1 record and advance to the Conference Championship game next week, as they travel to rematch the undefeated 11-0 Texas Xtreme out of Austin. Winner advances to the TUFA league championship game on June 10th in Georgetown, Tx.

Edinburg Vela hires new football head coach

At the Edinburg CISD school board meeting voted on Wednesday night, it was announced that John Campbell will be the new football head coach/athletic director at  Edinburg Vela High School.

Campbell was the former head coach at San Antonio Brandeis, San Antonio John Jay and most recently at San Antonio Madison.

Out of 40 applicants, they were narrowed down to 5 finalist. (the other finalists listed below)

RGV Pop Warner & South Texas Showcase held a speed camp at Tigers Stadium in Mercedes. Two sessions were held and both were a huge success as RGV athletes learned a lot from coaches Carl Greenwood & D.J. Monroe.
