PSJA wins over Edinburg Vela - 8/29/13

PSJA Bears defeated the Edinburg Vela Sabercats Thursday night to kick off the 2013 football season. Both teams started off slow but things changed in the 2nd quarter when the Bears offense started clicking, behind QB Jesse Navarro who had 178 total yards & 3 total touchdowns (2 rushing, 1 passing).

The Bears defense held the Sabercats to a single score, when Vela QB found an open receiver for a 25 yard strike into the endzone, extra point was missed. Bears added a beautiful 70 yard punt return for a touchdown to break things open late in the 3rd quarter.  Bears win 28-6.

Bears start off the season (1-0) and travel to Los Fresons to face off against the Falcons on Friday, Sept. 6th. Vela (0-1) will host the PSJA Southwest Javelinas on Thursday, Sept. 5th at Cats Stadium in Edinburg.

Jags run wild in win over Porter - 8/29/13

Economedes Jaguars hosted the Brownsville Porter Cowboys in a Week 0 non-district battle at Cats Stadium. Jags did what they do very well, run the ball! Jaguars racked up 400+ rushing yards, leading way to a 42-0 win.

Tony Izaguirre & Ramsey Ramirez stole the show, both finding pay dirt multiple times, Izaguirre (2 rushing td's) Ramirez (3 rushing td's) Economedes defense held Porter to 99 yards on the night & stopped Porters' only potential scoring drive inside the 5 yard line.

Jaguars (1-0) now travel to face the Mustangs of Mcallen Memorial on Thursday, Sept. 5th at Mcallen Veterans Stadium. Brownsville Porter will host the La Joya Coyotes on Sams Stadium on Thursday as well.

Vets-Rivera & Mission-Palmview game recap - 8/29/13

Vets grind out win over Rivera

Mission Veterans QB Santos Villarreal helped lead his team to a 35-24 win over Brownsville Rivera at Sams Stadium. Vets took a 14-7 lead into the half, but the Raiders would not go down lightly, fighting back in the 2nd half to a 21-17, after a 70 yard passing td score & 45 yard field goal. Vets we're able to hold off Rivera and go back home with the victory.

Mission pulls off 2nd half comeback

Defensive slugfest at La Joya Stadium betwen the Palmview Lobos & Mission Eagles. The Eagles we're able to come back from a tight 13-9 half time score, to surpass the Lobos in a wild 2nd half and finish off the night with a 23-13 win for Mission after some costly turnovers by Lobo QB Ezequiel Huaracha, who also had a awesome leading jump into the endzone early in the game.

V2M: Game Of The Week - 8/27/13

Our first Game Of The Week of the 2013 football season, kicks off with Weslaco Panthers vs. Edcouch-Elsa Yellow Jackets. Panthers travel to the "Black Hole" and look to avenge last years slug fest, that ended with a 5-0 victory by the Yellow Jackets. Great match up between 2 playoff qualifiers from last season.

Rowe vs. Mchi Volleyball - 8/27/13

Nikki Rowe Lady Warriors defeated the Mchi Lady Bulldogs in 3 sets (25-7, 25-19, 25-15) Tuesday night at Mchi gym. The Warrior win gives them a (1-0 record) in 31-5A District standings.

Mystics retain title!

RGV-Mcallen Mystics goes back to back state championships with a  27-13 win over the San Antonio Cowgirls at Wheatley Sports Complex in San Antonio, Tx. Mystics defeated the Cowgirls for the second straight year in the Champinship game, Mcallen won 33-31 last season.

Nikki Rowe Lady Warriors defeated the Los Fresnos Lady Falcons to win the Mcallen tournament championship at Mcallen Memorial H.S. Gym Saturday afternoon.

Prayers for Isaiah Garza

Isaiah Garza was involved in a one vehicle roll over accident along with a female passenger. He is a Senior at Mercedes High School & a member of the Mercedes Tigers football team, a 3 year letterman.

Isaiah was taken to Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen with serious injuries. He is currently undergoing surgery. - We wish him the best!

Harlingen's Omar Hunter at Notre Dame

Shout out to Omar Hunter, Class of 2013 Alumni out of Harlingen Cardinals. He will be representing the entire RGV & South Texas as member of the Notre Dame Fightin' Irish. Omar is pictured above in his first practice with the team #81 -- Good luck Omar!

Adonis at THSCA All Star Game

Congrats to Adonis Cruz who played in Fort Worth, Tx. at the Texas High School Coaches Association All-Star game. Adonis Mcallen Rowe High School & the entire RGV very well. Cruz will now head to start college football at Texas A&M Commerce. Good Luck! -- Tim Ruiz from Mcallen Memorial was also a selection along side Adonis on the O-line.
