PSJA Bears defeated the Edinburg Vela Sabercats Thursday night to kick off the 2013 football season. Both teams started off slow but things changed in the 2nd quarter when the Bears offense started clicking, behind QB Jesse Navarro who had 178 total yards & 3 total touchdowns (2 rushing, 1 passing).
The Bears defense held the Sabercats to a single score, when Vela QB found an open receiver for a 25 yard strike into the endzone, extra point was missed. Bears added a beautiful 70 yard punt return for a touchdown to break things open late in the 3rd quarter. Bears win 28-6.
Bears start off the season (1-0) and travel to Los Fresons to face off against the Falcons on Friday, Sept. 6th. Vela (0-1) will host the PSJA Southwest Javelinas on Thursday, Sept. 5th at Cats Stadium in Edinburg.
